Taiko Drumming – Instructor Training
There are ten Taiko drums for Orkney community use, and the aim is to get them out into schools and the community for everyone to enjoy as a shared musical and group experience.
This workshop is the second in a series aimed at developing instructors to make the drums part of the Orkney musical repertoire over time. Previous experience playing music or Taiko would be beneficial.
Over two hours, Tsuchigumo Daiko members Martin and Shonagh will quickly review the fundamentals and then go on to a structured approach of working through 8 lessons which can be used both to learn and to teach the drums. These lesson plans would be suitable for both schools and community groups. Supplementary materials including videos for self-study will be provided so participants can work at their own pace in between workshops.
Participants should wear clothing comfortable to exercise in, with flat gym-type shoes or trainers. A hand towel is also advisable. Water and hot drinks will be available.
